Photo. Exploring the space that I created in Minecraft (VR DEVICE: VIVE) Video 1. Minecraft (VR Version) Video 2. Minecraft (Desktop Version)
Designing a VR environment on Minecraft platform that uses various mediums like sound, lights to attract gamers to enjoy an interactive space.
The first game I explored was the ubiquitous Minecraft. The simple nature of the Minecraft blocks were both the benefit and challenge of working with this software. Many of impressive undertakings that people have constructed in Minecraft have garnered attention because of the scale of the work. In some cases, it is the scale alone that merits this attention. As this was a short project with an aggressive schedule, I couldn't rely on the shear block count of our projects to impress our audience, but needed to rely on the ideas and aesthetics of what I produce.

4 weeks, Individual Project
T.Jason Anderson (Game Spaces Making)
Minecraft, OBS, Twitch, VR Device (Vive)
15 participants built one environment, space or object in a multiplayer format.
In order to propose a project, I must first arm myself with an understanding of the medium and the methods of building. Understanding this, the first week of the project was intended to be research and experimentation. I proposed several visions of science-fiction/ fantasy places in Minecraft, and narrowed one idea "VR Concert". Following two weeks, I built the structure and tested usability in virtual space.
Music + Live Communication + Attractive spatial exploration
In Minecraft, players can upload an MP3 file and play the music by using the tool "CD" and "Jukebox". I wanted to use the sound to make players enjoy the immersive environment.
Concept Abandoned building in zero gravity -> Renovated as concert hall -> Musicians can play their music by using Jukebox in Minecraft
A long time ago, there was an explosion in Minecraft. One region became zero gravity. No one wanted to live there.
One man renovated the abandoned building and rent the space to musicians. Now people love to visit this space and enjoy music together.
I also reserved the space to share my music with you today. Let's explore together.
Behind The Story
As multi-channel networks gain popularity, people share their experience through various mediums; not only text, but also videos and sound. I've been thinking about how to create a future platform that can foster human connections. What would make the concert going experience easier and more enjoyable?
From secondary research, 76 million monthly users use SoundCloud and it reaches 175 million global users. People create songs on Soundcloud and make their own album cover to deliver their ideas and emotions.
What if we had a virtual space that invites friends across the world to enjoy music together? It could offer an immersive experience and enhance interaction between friends.
Inviting Friends To VR Concert
I invited 6 friends from different countries to my VR space at the same time. The game "Minecraft" can be connected to VR devices and also teleport my friends to specific spots. In addition, I can make a customized space with music, light, and special effects.
Each section of the audience has different sound volumes due to distance from the stage. Just like in a physical space, audiences can enjoy the concert in virtual space as well.
